THIS IS WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON!

FAR FROM THE TREE – THE MOVIE!
If you enjoyed the book, “Far From The Tree,” you are going to love the movie! Award winning filmmakers, Jessica L. Funches (Hope’s Choice, Something is Killing Tate) and Sherri James (Somebody Help Me, One Flight Stand, Gabrielle) have partnered together to bring Celeste’s, Ronnie’s, and Della’s journey to the screen. This feature will be Jessica’s directorial debut.

“I have been a fan of ‘Far from the Tree’ … actually all of Donna and Virginia’s books for years. It is a privilege to be able to adapt such a phenomenally written piece of literature into a visual medium. My goal is for the characters on screen to live up to the visualizations that fans like myself had when reading the book.”
– Co-writer/Director/Producer, Jessica L. Funches

TRYIN' TO SLEEP IN THE BED YOU MADE - THE MOVIE
We are in the early stages of producing Tryin' to Sleep in the Bed You Made the MOVIE!!!! It will be an independent feature film--and we are hopeful for a release late in 2008--to follow up the January 2008 publication of the Tryin' sequel, Gotta Keep on Tryin'. We have joined forces with two dynamic women to form 4 Colored Girls Productions. We are "artistic" producers--and our nuts and bolts, hands on producers are both young women with film experience who have wanted to make this movie since the book came out in 1997!

We have many pieces of this project already in place, including the commitment of an award winning actress to play one of the lead roles. We're quickly finding out that making a movie is a process that has it's own universe, and moreover, that while making an independent feature gives you the latitude and control to make the movie YOU WANT as opposed to what the studios decide we should have, it is also its own special brand of insanity. But---other people do it--every day, Spike Lee, Quentin Tarantino, and most recently, Tyler Perry--so why shouldn't we?!

More movie news soon!

TRYIN' TO SLEEP IN THE BED YOU MADE - ORIGINAL COVER
As some of you know, Tryin' to Sleep in the Bed You Made has been our biggest selling, and best-remembered book. It was published in hardcover in 1997 and had a bright indigo and pink cover with illustrations of Pat and Gayle, the two main characters. From the beginning many readers told us that the cover made them pick it up—that it called to you. By 1998, Tryin' was released as a mass market paper back (the small one) and that edition had two covers. One pink with indigo writing, the other was the opposite-- indigo with the title in pink script, with the same illustration. In 2002, Tryin' came out as a trade paperback and that cover was yet another incarnation of the original—except this time it was a vibrant orange. In between those versions, our British publisher came up with a totally different cover interpretation for their audience. (FYI all these covers can be seen in in our photo album on our MySpace page: www.myspace.com/twomindsfull)

And now—with Gotta Keep on Tryin', the sequel to Tryin' to Sleep in the Bed You Made, due out in January, our former publisher is preparing to re-release Tryin' —with ta da!!!! A brand new cover!!!!! (And that extra chapter that doesn't exist in the hardcover or the mass market paperback—one about Marcus.)

It's a totally new look after 10 years of variations on a theme!
